HTC Sense and MOTOBLUR have nothing to do with app performance, any more
than aHome does. They are simply home screen replacements, alternative
icons, and skins on a couple of built-in apps (e.g., Browser looks a bit
different on the Hero). The rest are ordinary Android apps and app
widgets.

Now, the HTC Hero or the Motorola CLIQ will have idiosyncrasies. The CLIQ
has its pointing device on the slide-out keyboard, so devices expecting a
pointing device in portrait mode will be in for a surprise, as they will
with the ARCHOS 5 Android tablet, which has no pointing device. The Hero
reportedly has limited control over the LED colors.

However:

1. HTC Sense != HTC Hero

2. MOTOBLUR != Motorola CLIQ

3. I have yet to see definitive evidence that either the Hero or the CLIQ
has a compatibility issue that is outside the bounds of the API (e.g., LED
colors aren't guaranteed, so while the Hero's support is weak, it is
within spec)

I was responding to a person who claimed that you needed to create a
dedicated "SenseUI" build, and you don't. I was responding to a person who
claimed you needed to create a MOTOBLUR build, and you don't.

Now, for the small percentage of applications that have dependencies on
specific device behavior within the API (e.g., needs to know if there is a
pointing device in portrait mode), the API does not go far enough, and
we'll have to work out something in the community to address that. But
neither HTC Sense nor MOTOBLUR have anything to do with this, which was
the point of the reply that I made.
