And the good aspects of the current market would be? Besides not having an Apple-style lock-in?
Seriously -- if I were a Google engineer, I would be a little offended by your message. Personally, I give them more credit for being adults, and not needing their feelings protected. Nobody is calling them idiots. I'm not surprised that they're at least aware that these issues exist, and that developers are unhappy. But there's a large gap between awareness, and understanding the impact on your users, to making it an actual priority, and finally to communicating it! If a professional developer has unhappy customers, he WANTS TO KNOW IT. He wants to hear as much as he can about it. Personally, I start with the assumption that these are professional developers. Sometimes they have hard choices to make. They need to know what the customer pain points are. Remember, too, that "developers"in this context includes "product marketing" -- an essential ingredient for product success. The fact that the market has progressed so little clearly indicates an operating set of priorities that many of us feel is holding back the platform as a place to develop applications for. This is just the sort of problem that product marketing should be addressing. Now, I'm not saying wording can't be improved. If you have specific concrete suggestions, I think it would be a fine idea to offer them. I just don't think it helps much to criticize it as being "too negative", out of fear of offending Google Engineers. Try using the metric of "effective communication" -- which sometimes includes effectively communicating an uncomfortable message.
