You sound like a beginner, so just to clear this up: letting go of all
references means nullifying it. Like:
laser1 = null;
and if that's your only reference to the resource laser1 was pointing
to, it is now released and ready for garbage collection. Another way
to let go of the reference [and more applicable for your case] would
be when you remove it from the ArrayList.
