If your goal is "put a TextView at the top of the screen", either use
your existing LinearLayout, or:

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/
android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
                <TextView
                        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
                        android:text="Test"
                        android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
                />
</RelativeLayout>
