Sounds like a great app idea to have created which allows other applications to be run off the SD card - NEED to also increase the internal memory as well the RAM/ROM.
Caveat that it has memory/functionality protection if the card is removed/disabled as well that when the applications are run off the SD card that they don't crawl. , Michael Martin http://www.googleandblog.com/ _____ From: Disconnect [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2008 10:22 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [android-discuss] Re: Why cant apps be downloaded to an external SD card?? All of these things (and more) are possible on an S60 device with apps installed (and running) on the sd card. My e90 would - at worst - close all active apps when I went to eject the sd. (If nothing was using it it didn't even do that, just said "ok" and off it went.) The core problem is that - as is common with android - the security model is preventing users from doing standard activities on their devices. (Similar problems exist for backup/restore apps, screenshots, etc.) On Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 5:41 PM, Mark Murphy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: monkeyboy wrote: > Hmmm, I dont think so. "Run an application", in Android, could be triggered by things other than tapping an icon: -- the app runs based on a timer (e.g., alarm clock) -- the app runs based on media changes -- the app runs based on Intents raised by third-party applications -- the app runs when data connections are enabled/disabled/changed -- the app runs constantly when the phone is "booted" (bad form, but it'll be done) > If you remove your SD card while an app is > running, then you would obviously get an error message, why would you > do this anyway? Why would you remove your SD card? -- Because you have photos on there you want to transfer to your PC and you prefer to do that by ejecting the card -- Because you have files you want to transfer to the phone and you prefer to do that by ejecting the card -- Because your SD cards are low-capacity and you want to change music libraries, or switch from music to ebooks, or from photos to movies, by switching in another card -- Because some phone designs make the card ejectable by accident -- Mark Murphy (a Commons Guy) http://commonsware.com _The Busy Coder's Guide to Android Development_ Version 1.3 Published! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
