I'm responsible for K-9 (though we seem to be collecting new contributors at a reasonably brisk pace). I implemented delete-on-server as one of the first things I did. I'm not sure I'd say that we've fixed a _lot_ of the bugs in the core Email application. Many improvements come from the fact that we started with the opensourced version of Email, which appears to be a newer build than the one shipped with the G1. You can find out a bit more about what K-9 ships with at http://code.google.com/p/k9mail/wiki/ReleaseNotes It's my intent to feed back improvements to the core Email application, though I'm not 100% sure everything we do will be deemed 'right' for a core application. I've signed a CLA and will encourage all other contributors to do so. As far as I've been able to determine, it's not possible to install local builds of a core application or distribute an improved version of a core application to the Marketplace without doing a fair amount of name-changing. This makes contributions a little more painful, but I'm confident we can make it go if the Android team think any of what we're doing is up to snuff.
