FYI at least in the USA T-mob will unlock after 90 days, sooner if you are a
good and/or long-term customer. (I got my unlock code for free this morning
simply by asking.)

They say you need to put a 2nd carrier SIM in to unlock, and what I've heard
"around town" is that that is simply the easiest way to get to the code
prompt.
