Well, since Gmail contacts are like labels/tags elsewhere in Google,
there isn't anything preventing you from making a combined groups like
FriendsAndFamily.  Of course that's ridiculous.  But your point is
really just a broader problem of many parts of this first Android
incantation.  The fact that you cannot display or manage groups at all
from the phone side is ridiculous, and the user interface is painful
to use (5 clicks to switch from one group to the next with no
indication of the contact group being displayed.)  And as of right
now, the "built in" Family,Friends, and Co-workers are not displayed
on the Phone -- I;m assuming this will be fixed sometime.
