The standard headphone has a button that you can press to start music playing and skip songs. It sounds like your 3-way splitter is occasionally triggering an event on the I/O that looks like the button is pressed. Was the splitter specifically targeted to the G1, or is a generic version? It's my understanding that the G1 adapter is a bit different than the other HTC models.
