I would very much like to know a workaround to this problem as I'm having the same phenomenon occuring with my 3-way splitter. It appears that whatever connection is being made, it starts the terminal music app playing whatever is in the list. It also appears to turn on "party shuffle" mode most of the time. I've narrowed it down to it being the splitter itself (no usb or headphones of any sort plugged in otherwise). The trigger also appears to occur sporadically, sometimes being within 2 seconds and other times not doing anything for a couple minutes, both times while being careful not to move it in any way. I'd rather not have to buy another one since the splitter itself seems to "work" okay, it just doesn't get along very well with the app.
As for what type of splitter I have, it is a "T-Mobile G1 3-in-1 USB Charge & Synch with 3.5mm Stereo Jack Adapter" which I found on amazon.com. I'm not sure if this is the same as Jon's, but it appears to spark similar behavior.
