The home app gets reaped just like any other application, and it takes half
of forever to start up again. The word from goog devs who worked on it is
"its plenty fast, you must be crazy, maybe there is something wrong with
your device." But realistically, 10-15 seconds is standard for home startup.

I agree, file bugs and keep prodding the devs - it is the first thing people
notice when they get past "hey thats a g1!" :( and it has bitten me
repeatedly trying to switch apps to do something -now-.
