What about MIDI control, i.e. using the G1 as a MIDI controller for
external MIDI devices, including Linux, Mac, PC, etc?

The G1 has MIDI playback capability, but can it send midi via USB?
This would be one way to use it as a "USB" controller. There are
several software options for Linux, PC & Mac that allow UI control of
those systems via MIDI. Myself, as a usician, I can foresee other
obvious advantages of using MIDI for controlling external devices.

I have used Gmote to play MIDI files on Windows, but I've not tried on
Linux yet though. Since it can play MIDI files on the PC, that already
offers a limited form of control. You can save control sequences from
other MIDI devices and simply play them back at will. Using Jack or
(Linux) and MidiTranslator or MIDI-Ox on Windows would allow you to
route these MIDI strings where required. I haven't tested this yet,
but it's on my short list. I'll post my findings here if anyone is
interested; or I should probably start a new thread for MIDI control
if none exists yet. But if MIDI works via USB on the G1, it could
become one control method.

Just brainstorming and looking for new ideas from others.
