Hi all,

What I did say is that many of these options, if made available to
users from the outset (with or without root), would have made the G1
an outstanding competitor to the iPhone. I generally agree with
Incognito about look and feel, which is why it is ridiculous to
require root access to change something so simple as the appearance of
the clock on your home screen, or the icon set. I rooted my phone
because it was the only way I could be happy with my phone.
Apparently, I am not alone, and many others have done so for the same
reasons. (Voice of the Customer, anyone?)

Multitouch, custom theming (look and feel), task manager, unfettered
SD card usage, tethering, autorotation, full backup and recovery
capabilities, plus much more = a better phone than you can get
anywhere else.

Too bad you have to root it to get it.
