Things have always been calmer over at GWT because the target platform (browsers) are a known quantity w/o central control of the user base by opaque Google/carrier teams. To throw another example in the mix - Maemo to me is the way we many may envision Android should have shaped up. Difference: Maemo "runs" pretty much hands-off because no single entity controls access to the platform.
