Very interesting article. This is what i understand why the iPhone only sold a few tens-of- thousands iPhones in the Indian market despite the 20million *new* subscribers into India' cellphone market:
- $700 sticker (shock) price. For 3 iPhones, you'll have a car. - Subsidizing phone not an option, because the vast majority of customers have prepaid acccounts. And iPhone is too easy to unlock from locked network. - Nokia is the king, from entry level to smartphone. - No good 3G network. - No text-message forwarding. - Upcoming market in China has many of the same issues, with an added issue that China won't allow WiFi network capability on phones. How can Android be successful: - Android not tied in with one set of hardware. Entry level devices could be made? Keep the price down. - Message forwarding is supported on Android. Android challenges: - No good 3G network. - Nokia is king. - China won't allow WiFi. And how about Android Market?
