Both have good arguments. I think we all agree that talented people need to get paid well and that past an economic threshold money becomes less important. Let's agree that talented people need to reach financial independence so that they can continue doing what they love.

Too say that money attracts talent, is not correct, it is the 'talented' people on Wall Street who were attracted to money, that have created the current economic crisis. The lure of easy money tends to attract greedy shallow and itenerate people. Talented people need to get paid well, but they are motivated by a lot more than money. Anyhow would love to pontificate more, but must write more Android code now.
