We all should be glad that the dark age of certificates is over. I
liked Java ME but I hate certificates. To get Java Verified
certificate cost money then if you want to have Java Certified
appplication you have to certify it for Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung,
LG and of course there are different families of Nokai phones then
different families of Sony Ericsson phones, Samsung... and not too
complicated ut complicated enough to appriciate simplicity of Android.
And for example if you want your certified application to run on AT&T
phones you have to get AT&T certificate or else your application can
not use sockets... Of course now we also have to sign our applications
but it is simple compared to JME.

This freedom is best for developers, Google, operators and end users
and that is one of the reasons why we see so many Android apps on the
market. Users can see comments, when  you install app you know what it
uses and based on comments you can decide whether it is safe or not...
