As Streets pointed out, the OP (myself) was trying to establish
whether consumers are buying apps as they exist in their current form
or whether what they are buying is the right to expected future
updates?

Even though not on original topic, this has been an interesting
discussion.

I wouldn't write off the market potential just yet - some apps have
already sold over 10,000 copies and that was just on a single handset
in less than 3 months.

And Ibcoder, while I agree about the lack of quality, this is also an
issue on the App Store - it is up to the devs to ensure the quality
apps get noticed through proper marketing, reviews, etc.
