Hello, Maybe this has been discussed before, but I didn't find any related thread on the groups.
I was thinking about some sort of "map feature provider" system in Android. This would allow an application to expose features to the Maps application, kind of like Google Earth layers. The user could choose which providers to display on the map, and applications could expose data such as : Features : - locations - paths - zones (closed paths) User interaction with these features : - appearance (icon/color...) - details (could be shown when the feature is clicked) - actions to launch when approaching / being located in / exiting (start activities, play a sound, display some kind of OSD...) I think this would be a lot better than having dozens of apps using MapView in a different way and not being able to kind of "mix" these applications' data... Has this been discussed before/worked on/rejected ? What do you think about it ?
