Thats just old-fashioned resistive junk. You remember the old kind of touchscreen where there was the screen, a gap, and a flexible membrane? It works by detecting the position of contact between the membrane and the lower screen when you shove the membrane down with a pointy object or your finger. They're quite terrible and obsolete, and they SUCK for gestures.
