Alternatives to long-press:
* Don't use long-press. Navigate through trackball and use the MENU-
key. -> since this actually already works in most applications there
is no need to complain :-) (long-press is optional - you don't have to
use it!)

* Use MENU + keyboard (also works already in many applications.)

* Double-tap would be an alternative. The speed is only limited by the
speed of your finger :-)

* press MENU + tap on the screen could be another alternative. Or
SHIFT + tap. Probably it means using two hands instead of one (or a
very flexible hand).

* Gestures (swipe, draw a circle, ...)

* touch + shake

* touch + shout

* multitouch

* ...
