Just wondering if anyone else has come to the decision to give ADC2 a miss?

The reasons we're doing it are below.

Al.

- The T&Cs allow Google or anyone in the OHA to develop an identical app and
you can't seek compensation

>From the T&Cs :

"You acknowledge and understand that Google and/or members of the Open Handset
Alliance may independently develop applications that may be similar to or
identical to your Entry in terms of theme, idea, function, or in other
respects. You agree that you will not be entitled to any rights in, or
compensation in connection with, any such similar or identical applications
and/or ideas... "

* Entering ADC2 gives Google a license to distribute the app for free

>From the T&Cs:

"As a condition of entry, Participant grants Google a perpetual, irrevocable,
worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, publicly
perform, publicly display and create a derivative work from, any Entry that
Participant submits to this Challenge for the purposes of allowing Google to
test and evaluate the Entry for purposes of the Challenge, to administer the
technical and other requirements of the Challenge including distribution of the
Entry to the Community and Expert Judges, and to advertise, display,
demonstrate, or otherwise promote the Android platform."

So if Google want to "promote" Android by bundling your app for free, then
you've just agreed to that.

* Voting process

>From the T&Cs : "...download a special, free judging application ("Judging
>Application") that will allow the end user to randomly download Entries". So
>basically users could end up with a stream of randomly chosen apps they have
>no interest in and users who have an interest in the app we enter may never
>see it.

This follows through to the 2nd round where "Qualifying Entries will be
randomly distributed to Community Judges..."

Google Market has already shown the types of ratings and comments from users
who go to the effort of finding and downloading an app that may interest them,
throwing random apps at them seems like a recepie for mayhem.

* Lack of updates.

The T&Cs state that 1st round judging could be open until 23rd of October,
which means that the app could be nearly 2 months out of date by the time user
voting ends, and nearly three before the second round ends. This is a problem
because if you release a more up to date version in those two months your ADC2
entry version will probably get a lower rating because users have already seen
what improvements are possible.
