If you are actually using it for development, then chances are you have the USB cable plugged in for debugging and getting Logcat info. You really don't need that much battery life for such a purpose. Now if you are going to use it as a cell phone as well, then you probably want a bit more juice in between chargings. How many mAh is your battery capable of? I pulled mine out of my G1 and it is a 3.7V, 1150 mAh. You may want to compare your values with your friend and see how the batteries compare.
