This whole discussion is ridiculous, IMHO. If you buy a phone you should at least be able to use it's features without hacking it. Smartphones (G1 included) shouldn't be treated any different than a portable computer, because that's essentially what they are.
And $400 for a phone that's almost a year old is absurd.
