If anyone else runs into this problem.  I actually found these
instructions easier to follow, I just stopped before installing the
Cyanogen Mod (but still did the Cyanogen Recovery Image), so now I
essentially have a dev phone running on a T-Mobile G1.  No more bill
shock.  Yay!
