One of the biggest and best reasons to physically go to Google IO is
to meet the people you've been talking, working, texting, e-mailing
and collaboration with over the previous years. In our business, most
of the contact we have with people is electronically. Being able to
congregate together in one location gives us all a chance to humanize
the relationships to those that we know only through our devices.

Of course, it's also a chance to be there when big announcements are
made, go to the interesting sessions, ask the engineers who've
developed the technology questions, etc.

If you're signing up because you think there will be a phone give-away
like last year, I'm betting you'll be disappointed. I've been to every
IO (and the Developer conferences that preceded it) and the only time
something other than a T-Shirt was given out was last year. No need to
do it this year, Android has moved into the mainstream.
