I went in 2009. Skipping in 2010, and if they keep doing what they've
done in the past, the following years as well.
On the upside - the free device was an awesome perk (sitting on my
desk for dev purposes), many of the technical sessions were extremely
valuable. I had to go back to check them in the intertubes in order to
absorb some of the finer points, and to catch up on sessions that I
could not attend. So I'll go straight to watching video this year.
The main reason I'll pass however is that I/O has been all about
celebrating Google. Compare that to macworld, where you'll find tons
of vendors and small evening events going down around town. I picked
up more business cards at the 2009 macworld than at Google I/O, and I
wasn't even registered to macworld... There's just so much more
opportunity (and money) going around at other shows.
