I really think Gmail should upload to the server the changes I make in the phone as soon as I do them. Many times I read, labeled, or deleted mails, and later, if it wasn't enough time, or I turned off the data (eg, when I come to home, or when I'm going to sleep), the changes haven't been sent to Gmail, and when I use the service on the computer, I have to do the same again. All I can do is press the button Update in the phone program, but many times I forget it.
I don't know if this feature have a technical name or something like that, but I think that is really necesary.
