So this is a great example of the divergence of vision. SlideME is focused on global handset distribution, which drives sales and downloads, more of a classic model and a general alternative to Android Market. This is casting the net far and wide. I can say for a fact, once a company gets their application on-device, innovation slows dramatically. There are many considerations in maintaining the system for 18+ months to support legacy devices.
The concept I'd like to focus on is to serve the higher-end market for developers of paid applications. This new market is not for handset distribution but rather for elite developers to manage and deliver their apps to their users in the way they really want. If there are developers out their willing to be part of the initial beta, they can strongly influence every aspect of the site before launch. So basically, if a developer has a great paid app but feels hampered by general markets like SlideME or Android Market, they could use this new market to connect into and manage their user base. This is a new market focused on very specific needs of the elite developer.
