I've had my HTC G1 for about 1 year now. I continue to use it as a
secondary phone, my main handset being a 5 year old Nokia 6680.

The Nokia has been stable, reliable (even more reliable than a newer
E65, I had three of those fail before giving away the fourth
replacement) and offers excellent voice quality on handset or speaker
mode, and several days battery life on regular GSM (2G) mode.

I realise that I probably have to make a sacrifice of some battery
life in order to benefit from smartphone features, email everywhere,
etc. But I don't want to sacrifice voice quality.

Reviews of the hottest Android phones, e.g. the Motorola Droid/
Milestone and the Sony Ericsson X10 focus on all the features, making
some comment on battery life. But how do those phones compare for
basic call quality?

My G1 also has intermittent issues with the incoming call alert: it is
not as loud as the 6680 and I often miss calls. Sometimes, there is
no sound at all, and the screen doesn't even light up, but I miss
calls. I never have these issues with the Nokia phone. Is this a
common experience with the G1 and do the newer handsets definitely
improve on that?
