Its very unlikely the G1 will ever receive a 2.1 upgrade - even if there was, it would not be an over the air update.. you would have to download it to a PC, and install it.
It is impossible for the G1 to receive an 2.0/2.1 over the air update. There physically is not enough disk space on the device... That is, unless they create a "slim" edition of 2.1 specifically for the G1.. again.. unlikely...
