3G idle is a drain.  If you're pushing traffic, time vs power is better with
3G engaged.  Just thought I would throw that out there.

the 3G and GSM aerials are at the bottom of the phone, where you naturally
tend to hold the phone while speaking, you can easily lose one or two bars
of signal, if you're in a poor coverage area this can be enough to drop the

Also I tend to use GPRS or WiFI when I can, and only enable 3G/HSDPA when I
know there is  good signal and I want extra speed, otherwise it can watse
lots of battery hunting for 3G signal or toggling back and forth.

In short you can learn to hold the phone near the top, but if you live/work
in a really poor covergae area you might want to think twice N1.
