No to take away from your other points, but these PROFESSIONAL programs that cost hundreds of dollars *do* use activation. Visual Studio does, Office does, I believe Adobe design products do. And as others have said, this isn't changing the operating system - it's about allowing an option in the market. That doesn't mean it has to be used by every app. And the better the support is in the market, the less of a pain it is for the average user.
