I would suggest experimenting with $5 or $10 per day for a few days.
I've advertised my app this way and had a perceptible uptick in downloads.
My app BFF Photo uploads photos to Facebook, so the tie-in is strong.

In my ad, I would say Search for "BFF Photo" in the Android market.

I would use Pay-Per-Click (PPC).  I was less interested in clicks and more
interested in
the volume of people that would see the ad.  The numbers get big quickly and
you may be targeting the same
people multiple times.  The hope is that they will remember your app and try
it when they search the market.
