How are the tablets at lightinthebox.com? I'm simply looking for home
use, wi-fi, near the router. Main apps would be skype and streaming
radio.
I would want to output to some speakers, just audio-out.
My primary concern isn't performance, but:
1.) security. are these chinese "android" tablets really running
android, or some clone? How do you know there's no rootkit
convenienty pre-installed?
2.) access to the authentic app store for things like chess, etc.
Any personal experience?

I have a Velocity Cruz T301 which I picked up for $170. It does have a
capacitance screen but only the Android API. It runs on a MIPS instead
of ARM processor. It's fine for what I wanted to do. Velocity is a US
company around since the early 90s that started out selling PCs. It is
a Chinese made device. It is weird as their is no Android ID so I don't
know outside of a locker system one would ever roll their own DRM. Plus
it won't connect with the ADB. These tablets remind me of the
inexpensive HD camcorders that several years ago appeared on the market
and I actually bought 3 they were so cheap (sold one).
It does depend on what you want to do with a tablet. I have a fair
amount of foreign customers to my web site that have or will buy these.
Some have already bought ones that did license the Google API (such as
the hPad) and hence have the Android Market. Best Buy has Huwei pads
with the Google API. What else I learned is again depending on what you
want to do you may want to make sure it has a fast CPU and possibly a
GPU. The Velocity pad can output through the headphone jack. I don't
necessarily recommend the Velocity either. I actually wanted to pick up
the Coby but Fry's sold out of them fast.
So for an overview of cheap tablets you might go to
http://www.androidtablets.net/ and read the forum for user's
experience. Again experiences will vary with the expectations here.
Developers tend to want a hot rod not a Chevy so consider that with
recommendations here. Also I think the good tablets are priced a little
high because of deals with the telecoms as they don't want people buying
wifi only tablets though I read today Samsung is releasing a bunch of
those (and probably with the Google API).
