I've recently posted this question on CyanogenMod's forum. My question is why is there not a Tablet specific version of Android.
Let me explain. I can understand why Android on a Cell Phone is by design a single User OS. No one expects or would usually want anyone else to be able to utilize their phone and possibly order/install new software etc as an example. However with Tablet's that seems to lose its validity in many "use" cases. Tablet's are starting to take on general computing capabilities that in some respects can replace a netbook or laptop. As an example use case (there are others I can easily think of)..... Tablets for grades K-12 schools. So why is there not a Tablet Specific Version of Android that supports multiple User Accts as in a normal Linux system. One acct is the Admin acct. That Admin account could create multiple User Accts. This way Schools could just buy a pool of tablets and Students could just pick any one and login and that is their Tablet for the day. The tablets could utilize normal networking, files and print servers etc. WIth this concept each user has their own "setup" for their applications & "desktop" etc without interfering with the setup of "other' User Accounts. Another use case would be for Home. A Parent's login can be different than each childs etc. I'd suggest that Android for Tablets should be evolved into this. Tablets are not Cell phones and I don't think their Android OS should be the same! Comments?
