I get really annoyed with LinkedIn "connect" requests from people I know
I've "connected" with in the past. I even contacted their tech support
about it. There was one case where a previous request got stuck in
their system so the tech fixed that and he also thought that some people
were signing up with multiple accounts and that was why I was getting
those annoying repeats.
Then we have the invites from people who have joined the "me too" social
networking startups. Then this morning I find one more web site that
wants to change their perfectly working comment software to Facebook as
if everyone in the world has an account there.

Hi,
Some interaction with the Market people must be a good thing.
G+ hangouts are pretty much face to face with the telepresence.
Facebook caters to a more adolescent rep, I find LinkedIn 'networks'
you into a 'professional/work' setting with colleagues/ex colleagues
many of whom you'd rather not be social with anyway.
I find G+ to be a better cross between FB& twitter where you can more
readily follow& filter for who& what interests you.
And yes I'm old.

I like the local Starbucks, a site where I can sit and talk to someone

That's fine and dandy if all your friends live locally. I live in the
Memphis area and most of the people I care about live elsewhere.
