Cables are not the same... I have 3 MicroUSB-USB cables... all came with a phone or other device I purchased... Two of the cables work on all 3 machines. 1 of the cables works on 2 of the machines, but not on the other.

Can't tell you what the difference is, but I have found the same thing on other cables as well. My best guess is that some manufacturers add/delete some wiring or limit the amperage for charging their device. I'm sure if the manufacturers follow the proper specs, they would be the same.... but expecting all manufacturers to do that is a dream... A perfect world is not where we live :)

Cable's are the same. You probably hadn't authorized the nexus 7's RSA fingerprint on that machine. Try updating adb and connecting

I used to naively believe that all cables with a microUSB on one end and a USB on the other end were the same. This Saturday I tried to debug a game on the Nexus 7 using what I think was a Galaxy S3 cable. It always said "offline".

I basically got nothing done as that was the only cable I had on hand. Is there any easy way to tell which cables work with which devices? Anyone know what the difference could possibly be?

Thanks.
