Yes it's broken in hardware basically due to wrong value caps as described.

The sound quality is OK but much more of the low end is attenuated than
should be the case.

There's no decent fix for it since the caps have very small PCB
footprint and are under the main can.

On the DAC path there is an "equalizer" on WM8753 that can increase the
bass somewhat, as seen in alsamixer.  But it or any software equalizer
can only do so much before the signal will clip.

But Bluetooth headphones should bypass all this if that can be made to work.
