Well, I think you are in the wrong list unless you are looking specifically to work on the kernel side of things.
There are plenty of ideas already in Android-discuss or other groups, with no one to implement them. Such as App to SD. Read the other groups and gather ideas or list of things you can do. Personally, I would like to see utorrent like client running on Android. I am actually looking at getting someone (unpaid) to work on that as a open source project. (those interested, contact me or tell me if there is already a similar project out there because all I see is utorrent remote software, not actual utorrent on android.)
