I have found out how to use the UML2MOF utility inside Netbeans MDR to be able to create true MOF 1.0 metamodels from UML 1.4 models. Chad Brandon has written a Maven plug-in to encapsulate UML2MOF and make it accessible from a Maven build. Chad has also found out how to use ATL correctly and ran some model transformations through it. The next steps for me would be to design some simple PSM metamodels (e.g. one for a 3GL like Java or C#, one for a web based MVC framework like Struts or Spring MVC, one for persistence mappers like Hibernate, etc., etc.). Then, we could prototype ATL transformations from UML to those PSM metamodels. Chad is trying to help the ATL people to clean up their code to make it usable independently, e.g. in AndroMDA. As soon as I will have given the AndroMDA boot camp next week, I'll be able to resume the work on metamodels and true model transformations in AndroMDA. I keep you updated! Cheers...
