Now that I am beginning to work on a "real" project, I am going to want to
upgrade AndroMDA without recreating my project directory each time. What is the
procedure to upgrade AndroMDA and the related projects cleanly?

You just need to change the andromda version in <your project>/
build.properties to the version you're changing to, and then you need to do a
search and replace in your model XMI to replace any references of the old
andromda profile with the new one (the andromda-profile will have the version
as the suffix). That all there is to it.
