Yeah, I've been in that code :-)  I've already modified it to use tagged 

values for column, type and value, and I was going to submit a patch

in jira when I read the discussion on the relevant issues.  I could

easily modify my code to use a namespace property, but I'm not sure

that is right, either.  For one, we'd still have to get the discriminator

value into the model somewhere (a thing I've not seen you mention

at all for some reason).



Let's step back a bit and forget that this has anything (at all) to do

with hibernate...



I want to model the fact that a Book is a Publication whose type is

"book."  Is this something that can be modelled in UML?  If so, 

how should it be modelled?  



Again, I apologize for my lack of UML knowledge, but I think 

answering this question for me will help get this discussion back on

track, because it seems like we're talking in circles (perhaps created 

by my ignorance).  I've gotten familiar enough with andromda's

source that I can implement this feature, but I'd like to make sure 

that I do it the right way :-)
