Perhaps English is Paul's second or third language, so it's always wise to make allowances, but equally the person in that situation should be well aware their use of language might be lacking & be willing to accept correction. Warning: this might require some humility ;) The online Cambridge dictionary above looks to be quite helpful in this respect as it's the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary, so attempts to catch subtle misunderstandings.
