Thanks for your suggestion. I ran Familiar 0.8.4(the only supported version for ipaq 2200) to see if it would work with my wifi card. lsmod reveiled that both the orinoco and hostap drivers were loaded. After trying to remove the orinoco modules, for some unknown reason, I was able to boot up the wireless card to such a state that it showed up with iwconfig. I can't use orinoco because I need wpa. (orinoco doesn't support wpa, doesn't it?)
