BTW, there is a way to have Opie and X11 run in parallel (if you have enough storage space available). Both environments can be started in different virtual terminal sessions. If both are up then it is a matter of applying "chvt x" to switch between both worlds. There was even an Opie plugin whih let you witch between the terminals though I forgot its name. The disadvantage: Took lots of resources, especially heap mem so you need swap space on a fast persistent storage.

I used to play around with X/Qt under OZ some while ago. I found it hard to use due to the same ressoure constrain issues and because it suffered from a slow performance. Never tried it under Angstrom though so I believe things could have improved.

At least both approaches need to be supported by some scripting to ease life for the average user and to improve session handling. opie-sh could be a good platform to provide this.

At the moment Angstrom does not support X/Qt. But I want to add some support to it. You seem to have some experience with both solutions.

I like the theoretical possibilities of X/Qt but I never used it. I am specially interested in the rootless mode because this and the possibilities to cut and paste stuff between opie and X11 apps would integrate the application better into opie. But both may not be usable - I don't know. The rootless mode is of course a bad idea if more than two applications are used.

As far as I know for now xqt is a xfree driver with some patches xfree. It could possibly be easy to port it to a xorg version which we use for other stuff.

For the second way with an X11 server on a different terminal I would like to start it every time I start an X11 application and kill it when I don't need it any more.

Did you prefer to use X/Qt with blackbox or some other window manager?
