Thanks, I now have the new version (1.2.4) running.

I was running Opie version 1.2.3 from the 2007.12-R18 install kit.

I wanted to update to the installation produced by the Narcissus package, and
after reading what I could find in the wiki and the mailing list, it appeared
to me that the tar.bz2 file produced by Narcissus was the hard drive image that
belongs at the root of the hard drive, so I did what I outlined below.
Obviously it didn't work.

All of my upgrades in the past have consisted of running the installer from an
SD card, with a hdimage1.tgz and Zimage.bin files. My next try was to convert
the tar.bz2 file from Narcissus to tgz, rename it as hdimage1.tgz and try to
flash from the SD card in the usual way.

This has worked so far. I have gotten past the initial boot and setup, and it
now shows Opie version 1.2.4 but still with the 2.6.24 kernel. Now I need to
set up networking, fix the bug with the 5-way pad, and install some software.
I'll let you know how it works out.

BTW I did find the search capability for the mailing list archives. I had just
been looking in the wrong place - It's on the beginner's WIki.
