If udev is giving you trouble and you have access to a recent (2.6.32 or
newer) kernel built with OE, you can try generating a rootfs with
narcissus[1] using the following options:

complexity: advanced
dev manager: kernel

That will use the new in-kernel devmanager and leave out udev in the
filesystem. It would be nice if people who are experiencing udev bugs
would try to debug them a bit, since I can't replicate them on all the
devices I test on.
