So this is more design/architectural question;

How should directives talk to services? 
1) Directly
or
2) Via controllers(=controllers do the wiring)

As an example; I've got directive that displays checkboxes. When clicking 
checkbox service state will be changed. 
So I can directly inject service to this checkbox directive and call change 
state method in service.
