Visit our website: HTTP://WWW.STOPNATO.ORG.UK --------------------------------------------- I posted this because it illustrates a trait of Raimondo's - setting people up on pedestals and then knocking them down and verbally napalming them if they disagree with him later. So Szamuely's his "favorite writer," in Autumn 2000, then he fires Szamuely in a pique because he "can't write," etc (assuming your account to be accurate, which I did). This is what he's like. First there were his love letters to Fulani, only to be followed by merciless vituperation against her just months later when they disagreed over the direction of the Reform Party. His duplicity knows no bounds. Last fall he was wailing on ICTY/Del Ponte/Nato for trying to blame Milosevic and RTS director Milanovic for the fatalities in the TV station bombing, not bothering to mention that DOS - for whom he'd shilled before, during, and after the FRY election - were acting as Nato's judicial handmaidens and doing everything they could to dignify Nato's buck-passing by detaining Milanovic. So he trashes Del Ponte for trying to pass the blame on the bombing but is mum on how DOS does ICTY's work on the ground. Then, oblivious to the points he'd made about the injustice toward Milanovic/Milosevic over RTS, he goes on, just weeks later, to ridicule "Milosevic apologists" for suggesting "Slobo" can't get a fair trial within Serbia. He always just walks away from this stuff and never accounts for it, cuz he assumes the rest of us have as deficient a short-term memory as he does. Just say NO to drugs kids. [WWW.STOPNATO.ORG.UK] Visit our website: HTTP://WWW.STOPNATO.ORG.UK --------------------------------------------- In a message dated 8/5/01 4:25:31 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] quotes an October 2000 column by Riamondo where he wrote: " I want to say a word about the recent, uh, discussion over the relative virtues of Slobodan Milosevic and my recent polemic directed at one of my favorite writers, George Szamuely. I did not mean to imply that George is in any way a conscious apologist for dictators of any sort, and I did go a bit overboard: unfortunately, his column appeared at the exact moment when a vigorous discussion of how we should cover the Yugoslavia election was taking place within Antiwar.com, and I'm afraid he got caught in the crossfire. While I disagree with his viewpoint, in retrospect it seems that I might have used a more nuanced approach: a "more in sadness than in anger" tone rather than a savage attack. I only hope he'll continue to write for us - and that we can continue to collaborate in the ongoing battle against interventionism. >> I don't get it, Jim. Are you saying Raimondo and antiwar DIDN'T fire Szamuely over politics? Or are you saying that this indicates he did? Or what?
